Nous avons travaillé sur les flux urbains naturels aux alentours de l’édifice. Il s’agissait de déterminer les moyens d’agir sur l’architecture existante pour connecter ces flux de manière fluide avec la nef centrale (située 3,5 mètres au-dessus des voiries) transformée en place couverte, accueillant étals et kiosques temporaires suivant les programmations événementielles. Trois nouvelles portes ont été percées dans le soubassement austère en pierre bleue, sous les façades en pierre de France richement sculptées, deux dans les façades latérales à hauteur du Cirio et du Falstaff, et la troisième au niveau de l’angle arrière faisant face à l’église St-Nicolas. Ces nouvelles portes sont matérialisées par des portiques en béton architectonique de teinte similaire à la pierre de France et sont fermées la nuit par d’élégantes grilles en laiton. Elles permettent aux passants de pénétrer dans le monument de plain-pied et de découvrir les nouveaux escaliers amorçant une promenade architecturale les conduisant au bel-étage de la Nef et se poursuivant ensuite vers les étages supérieurs occupés par le Belgian Beer World. L’ascension s’effectue en spirale ascendante autour de la nef, au gré de la visite de l’exposition audacieuse et interactive. Le point culminant de cette promenade est le grand final sur le toit-terrasse et son bar panoramique protégé par une élégante marquise dorée en métal ajouré. La nef centrale devient le nouveau lieu de rencontre au cœur de Bruxelles. Son identité est soulignée par l'œuvre d'art de Valérie Mannaerts qui couvre l'ensemble du sol, unissant la monumentalité de ce lieu avec la touche et l'échelle humaine, l'analogique et l’artisanat. Le sol comprend quatre éléments organiques, réalisées en mosaïque, qui font référence aux ornements végétaux modelés dans le stuc du plafond. Le sol a été conçu pour être vu sous différents angles et depuis différentes hauteurs. La nature tridimensionnelle des dessins en mosaïque agit comme un trompe-l'œil, que l'on ne découvre, que progressivement, au fil de la visite du bâtiment. A l'instar d’une galerie publique, la nef est bordée de salons historiques qui abritent désormais de nouvelles fonctions&nbsp;: brasserie, restaurant, billetterie, expositions temporaires et salles de séminaires et co-working. Le site archéologique Bruxella 1238, dont les ruines se trouvent sous la rue de la Bourse, a été entièrement repensé et transformé et est désormais directement accessible depuis les sous-sols de la Bourse. Le site reste visible depuis le piétonnier à travers des oculi de verre qui mettent en valeur les principaux éléments des vestiges et sont protégés par des corbeilles en laiton et marbres belges qui s'inspirent des anciennes "corbeilles" de la Bourse. La restauration du bâtiment vise à mettre en valeur aussi bien les parties originales de Léon-Pierre Suys (1873), que les transformations ultérieures réalisées en 1893 par Jules Brunfaut et en 1930 par François Malfait. Les lions emblématiques marquant l’entrée, très endommagés, ont été restaurés. Les frises, les boiseries, les pierres naturelles et différents décors polychromes ont également été restaurés dans leur état d'origine à la suite de sondages stratigraphiques. Les grandes verrières du 19e siècle, entièrement rénovées, laissent à nouveau entrer une lumière naturelle généreuse dans la nef, sublimant encore le monument. Le projet s'est enrichi, aussi bien à l’extérieur qu’à l’intérieur de l’édifice, de nouveaux lustres en laiton, qui doivent leur apparence au caractère anthropomorphique des vases, ainsi qu'aux paniers ou corbeilles typiques du bâtiment original de la Bourse. Les constructions existantes (hors-sol) réalisées en 1988 à la suite immédiate de la découverte de ces vestiges ont été démontées avec précaution pour permettre de rétablir une continuité des pavages de voirie avec le piétonnier. La nouvelle dalle de couverture en béton apparent est une dalle post contrainte qui alterne en sous-face des surfaces lisses et nervurées en fonction de l’implantation des murs archéologiques, franchissant les ruines d’une traite, sans appui intermédiaire. Des oculi vitrés y ont été intégrés, centrés sur les différents caveaux et tombes qui caractérisent le site pour les rendre visibles depuis la rue. Ces fenêtres circulaires sont ceinturées de garde-corps ajourés en laiton inspirés des anciennes corbeilles de la Bourse, dont les tablettes sont réalisées en marbres belges. Ils apparaissent depuis cet espace cryptique comme des “canons à lumière” et sont habillés de l’intérieur par des feuilles de laiton cintrées, contrastant avec la rugosité du béton et diffusant la lumière naturelle en la réhaussant de nuances dorées. La géométrie de ces corbeilles, constituée de deux nappes croisées de plats en laiton (30 x 3 ou 6 mm) inclinées à 45°, suit le principe d’un paraboloïde hyperbolique (surface courbe constituée d’éléments plans). Situé dans le soubassement avant de la Bourse, l’espace introductif informe les visiteurs sur l’Histoire du site par le biais notamment d’une grande table-vitrine cruciforme. Les visiteurs sont ensuite dirigés vers l’escalier qui les conduira aux vestiges dont l’accès s’effectue en empruntant un tunnel en laiton (sas climatique) traversant les murs de fondation de la Bourse, symbolisant ce voyage vers le 13e siècle. Afin de permettre l’accès de plain-pied aux différentes “chambres” définies par la succession des murs archéologiques du site, des découpes ponctuelles et précises ont été ménagées dans les maçonneries historiques. Ces ouvertures sont également revêtues de panneaux de laiton et induisent un nouveau parcours muséographique linéaire à travers les vestiges. Une longue étagère archéologique métallique bleu clair qui fait la liaison entre les différentes chambres du site court le long du voile en béton existant, au Nord. Celle-ci évoque un chantier de fouilles : les archéologues y sont venus déposer, au fil de leurs recherches patientes et minutieuses, les objets qu’ils y ont découverts. Des outils d’archéologues, etc… y seront aussi exposés et témoigneront de leur pratique. Une nouvelle sortie vers la rue de la Bourse a été créée dans la dernière chambre via un escalier hélicoïdal de même ton que l’étagère. Celle-ci se matérialise au niveau de la rue par un édicule cylindrique vitré protégé par une corbeille en laiton ajourée similaire aux autres mais de plus grande hauteur. Ce dispositif architectural permet de compléter cette visite souterraine des vestiges avec leur perception aérienne depuis la rue à travers les oculi, offrant ainsi aux visiteurs une double lecture de ceux-ci. Archiduc surface : 227 m² L’ancien cercle privé l’Archiduc, situé à proximité de la Bourse de Bruxelles a été conçu en 1943 par l’architecte Franz Van Ruyskensvelde dans le style 40. Quelques années plus tard il est converti en club de jazz privé par le chef d’orchestre Stan Brenders et devient le lieu de rendez-vous des jazzmen en vue, parmi lesquels Toots Thielemans, Nat King Cole, Miles Davis, Vicky Down, Jacques Brel et beaucoup d’autres qui y avaient leurs habitudes. Dans les années 80 le club est rénové dans un esprit plus moderniste que l’esthétique originelle. Ce projet de masterplan, qui intègre également une étude matérielle et historique (commandée par popoff architectes à ARCHistory / APEB), cherche à rendre au lieu son essence esthétique de 1943 tout en accentuant la dimension scénographique, théâtrale, voir cinématographique (référence à David Lynch) de ce lieu mythique de la scène musicale bruxelloise. Le mobilier historique est restauré ainsi que ses célèbres banquettes. De nouveaux rideaux en velours toute hauteur viennent habiller les murs, améliorer l’acoustique de la salle et redéfinir un espace scénique dans la salle. Les appliques lumineuses originelles et leurs abat-jours rouges sont restaurés et replacés en avant plan des rideaux. Les finitions de la colonne centrale et les garde-corps de la mezzanine sont repensées dans un style contemporain mais dans l’esprit du lieu. Ces 5 éléments abstraits longilignes disposés parallèlement aux murs mitoyens créent un jeu de perspectives dynamiques et d’échos autour du vide central. Elles s’inspirent des maisons prototypes de Mies van der Rohe construites dans les halles de l’exposition du Bâtiment à Berlin en 1930, et des sculptures de Georges Vantongerloo de la même époque. Leurs façades sont réalisées en enduit extérieur teinté dans deux nuances de gris. Cette texture extérieure se retourne et recouvre également tous les murs et plafonds à l’intérieur des deux blocs. Un dallage de basalte sombre s’élève en partie centrale et crée un socle tramé pour recevoir ces deux “architectures d’intérieur”, abritant les locaux de service. Ce piédestal articule les différents espaces tout en maintenant la continuité traversante du loft. Il permet également le passage invisible des conduits techniques vers la seule gaine située contre le mitoyen. Une longue bibliothèque basse, de teinte grenade, accueille les visiteurs, les informe de la passion de l’habitant des lieux pour l’architecture, et les guide vers la façade arrière et sa vue dégagée vers l’ouest et la basilique. L’intérieur d’îlot évoque une micro forêt urbaine où se mélangent conifères, bouleaux et haies de charme. Au rez-de-chaussée la typologie locale de la véranda a été réinterprétée afin de prolonger et ouvrir les pièces de vie de la maison vers le jardin, en intégrant le dénivelé du terrain et les profondeurs décalées des maisons attenantes. Onze portiques en sapin rouge du nord sont placées parallèlement, tous les 55 cm, sur deux poutres en lamellé-collé, elles-mêmes déposées sur quatre pilotis en béton. Cette structure légère et ajourée génère « une façade latérale – filtre » translucide vers les parcelles voisines, et une «&nbsp;façade arrière – cadre&nbsp;» d’un fragment rectangulaire végétal. La famille s’agrandissant, la géométrie de la toiture arrière a été modifiée afin d’y intégrer la chambre principale et ses espaces attenants. Ce nouveau volume s’inspire de celui de l’extension initiale et reprend ses codes constructifs (mur-rideau transparent/translucide, structure en bois naturel). La façade avant a également été entièrement rénovée (enduit blanc sur isolation, nouveaux châssis en alu extra fins et cadres périphériques, soubassement en béton blanc, ...). Le jardin se situe 1,9 mètre en-dessous du plancher du rez-de-chaussée et son accès s’effectue par la cave. L’espace du rez-de-chaussée a été complètement ouvert et fusionné avec l’espace de cave en façade arrière afin de créer à partir de l’escalier existant un jeu de split-level faisant communiquer la cuisine, le séjour et le jardin. L’étroitesse du séjour est ainsi compensée par sa généreuse hauteur sous plafond qui procure une véritable sensation d’espace. La façade arrière entièrement reconstruite reçoit un gîtage en sapin autoclavé sur un épais matelas d’isolant et pare-pluie dont les lattes verticales et profondes sont profilées pour créer un effet vibratoire à sa volumétrie. La parcelle est mitoyenne à un parc public et au vaste jardin d’un manoir. Les limites cadastrales sont matérialisées par d’anciens murs épais également en granit qui cadrent la végétation luxuriante bordant la propriété (palmiers, saules, pins, hortensias, agapanthes…). Toutefois, la façade arrière orientée au Nord et faisant faces aux jardins est quasi aveugle et traitée comme une façade de service alors que la façade sur rue évoque un cottage anglais. L’intérieur comporte une salle principale élégante dont le mur de fond est animé par un bel escalier balancé en bois foncé, tout comme les différents éléments de menuiseries dominant l’espace (plancher, poutres, tablettes de cheminée, encadrements de baies, châssis, portes, …). Un nouveau volume en ardoises naturelles se glisse sur le mur de clôture latéral et vient buter contre la façade arrière de la villa, présentant une double pente de toit composant avec les versants, fenêtres et corniches de l’existant pour ne pas créer de raccords conflictuels. Cette extension constituée d’une ossature en bois et d’une isolation ultra performante se développe sur deux niveaux et vient doubler la surface de la villa tout en ouvrant ses nouveaux espaces sur les jardins. La volumétrie intérieure, négatif des volumétries de toitures, compose avec un escalier intégré au mur de façade latérale couvrant le mobilier de cuisine. Le plan de la maison est inspiré de l’habitat traditionnel Maasaï, population d’éleveurs et de guerriers semi-nomades d'Afrique de l'Est, vivant au Kenya et en Tanzanie. Les pièces de vies s’organisent au rez-de-chaussée en suivant la pente du terrain autour d’un patio central clôt et sont distribuées par un couloir à la géométrie accidentée. La paroi extérieure de l’habitat ne comporte quasi pas de fenêtres, seulement une porte d’entrée. Un volume plus élancé émerge toutefois pour abriter la chambre principale et aboutir en toiture-terrasse, offrant une vue panoramique vers le Lac.
